What Are Gall Stones and What Causes Them?

This article by Dr. David Smaldone DC describes gall stones and their causes. Gall stones can be extremely painful, and need immediate treatment. Your chiropractor can help in alleviating your pain.

Gall Stones are very common in the chiropractic and general population. Gall Stones are also know as AKA choleliths. Gall Stones are made from crystalline structures found in bile and cholesterol.  They can range in size and most do not cause problems unless they are blocking a duct or gallbladder.

Gall Stones are common among overweight people who are trying weight loss strategies that can allow them to lose weight quickly.  They also occur in females, people over forty, and gaseous individuals.  They can also form if the gallbladder is not emptying properly.

Signs and symptoms of gallstones include, but are not limited to sudden pain in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen, chest pain, difficulty taking deep breaths, pain lasting 1 to 3 hours, and pain occurring after eating.

Diagnosis of gallstones based on signs and symptoms, ultrasounds of the abdomen, imaging tests, or a gallbladder scan.

Your chiropractor will perform a thorough history and examination including orthopaedic and neurological testing.  Then your chiropractor will develop a specific plan of management tailored to your case.
